Venice is not a single island but many small islands that have joined together over time. The historic city centre, in fact, is made up of almost 180 islands, specifically 176, which are connected to each other by 435 bridges and between which 176 canals pass. A very fascinating and complex landscape, that of the Venetian lagoon which, however, in addition to the part of the historic center, also includes many other lagoon islands that make up the so-called Venetian lagoon.
In the mid-19th century, there were 62 Venetian islands but today there are much fewer, around forty of which some are inhabited and others not.
